LDP – Lambat Dan Perlahan
This is about the road which many people have to drive through every day in day out. The scientific name is Lebuhraya Damansara Puchong or LDP. Informally people call it Lambat Dan Perlahan (“Slow” and “Slow”"). I guess this might be the millionth time who writing open complaint on the road; wish the GOD bless us and help solve the problem.
It is just so congested, no matter what hour. And most of the time we have no other choice. It is always use the road or stay at home. You can’t be staying at home isn’t it? Business is all out there and you have to travel. Worse thing is, this is not the only road that congested during peak hours. All corner of Klang Valley is ‘JAM’.
I am thinking of ways to improve it. And wish to crowd source some methods help to improve traffic condition in Klang Valley as a whole. It is just a waste of resources and money while we parking in the middle of highways.
Just some simple calculation, let say we have 1 million people jammed on the road every morning and evening for 10 min extra time than the normal traveling time, we will have wasted 20 million minutes a day. It is equivalent to 333,333.33 hours. Provided the average hour value of our people is RM 10, then we should have wasted 3.3 million everyday.
Together with the extra petrol charges of say RM 5 per car and there are 500k cars on the road, we are spending the extra of 2.5 million there. In money value alone we wasted 5.8 million a day. 1 year down the road it is 21.17 billion in total.
The illustration is only on the conservative estimation. What about the opportunity costs that is non quantifiable? Just an example, due to lateness, a businessman may have lost his deal. Or maybe parents can’t have more time to spend on their children and caused some problems there?
Why we can’t have a better plan? Why we can’t have better public transports and better traffic flow control? We always on the road feel that it should be a better way of getting it done; but our fellow MP’s won’t understand because they have traffic polices to smoothen the road for their cars. They don’t suffer from traffic jam anyway.
Come to the end of this, it is funny enough why we have built the highway and charged expensive toll, but we allow this kind of vehicle on the road?
This is a picture I took when I was on the LDP this morning. Cars were blocked by the slow crawling big footer and wait for chance to over take him. You might have the same question in mind, why can’t we just banned them from crawling on the road during peak hours? Logically speaking is it normal thing that should happens? And we don’t have only 1, we have plenty of them on LDP, both direction. If it is not normal why we can bare with if for years? Why?!
I beg for suggestions how can we settle it once for all.
