Entrepreneurship Diary – Day 2
Today is the second day in the entrepreneur fair. Due to the disappointment of lack of visitors, then I purposely went in late taking opportunity to have breakfast with friend cum prospects for business.
As expected, after arrived to the venue I just hang around other people’s booth, greeting fellow exhibitors who are mostly entrepreneurs as well. I came a cross a nice lady who is currently doing insurance business also. She was nice enough to give a lot of advice. I guess at her age she have enough experience be it in business or how life should be. One thing important she gave advice on focusing on business partnership and successor planning on risk management. It has far better prospectus because the closing premium is much more than individual cases. The only thing is we have to always expose ourselves to the entrepreneurs or SMI/SME owners who can afford the risk management plans. It is most of the the time easier than expected to present to them, the only thing is to make sure sincerity to help.
There are 2 government linked agencies which provide funding on technology innovation projects seen participating the exhibition as well. To name them one is MDEC who carrying MSC Malaysia Pre-Seed Fund Program and Cradle Fund Sdn Bhd who in charge of Cradle Investment Program. Both program are similar, which provide grant of up to RM 150k for technology related invention and innovation development projects. The only different is the former focus only on IT related projects but the latter open to a wider scope as long as technology related development. The projects shows the initiative of government in helping entrepreneurs to materialize the ideas that brings added value to the national technology and ICT development. Entrepreneurship Diary
Today’s focus is on the road show we had in PWTC as part of 
the National Bumiputra Entrepreneur Fair. The fair is held from 17 – 19 July 2009 but I am joining only the weekend. Therefore I were there today, and will be tomorrow as well. The main objective was to see more people, talk to more people be it for the purpose of selling unit trust investment or recruiting new unit trust consultants.
We were there early in the morning, even though it was about 10 o’clock. It was not a big crowd as expected. Well, let it be. We went for some simple breakfast.
So time goes by and we do not see a lot of people come by. Why not we go out and look for people? Let’s talk to fellow exhibitors since all are entrepreneurs. And therefore this is to record some of the interesting findings.
First of all it was a polo shirt manufacturer. I found the concept of franchising is pretty interesting and easy to start. They provides the ‘base-shirt’ of various fabric and cuttings, the buyer have the chance to customize the printings and patterns to be sewed on. With the franchising concept, an entrepreneur just need a small space to put up the display and accept orders for down to just 1 shirt per customer. The shirts should have good demand in the group of younger generation because indeed the product is seem in very good quality and is personally customizable.
Investment in education is good business. There are 2 education providers that attracted my attention. One of them is providing academically equivalent certifications on leadership development. The program is mainly to coach people on leadership development and to provide a platform for professional and business networking. Another one is subject to help fellow entrepreneurs find the way to understand what are the business opportunities that is suitable for a person and worth invest the money, effort and time into.
There are some investment scheme in foreign lands as well as gold bonds, and also swiftlets farming. It seems there are a lot of alternative investment options for investors. It is good to consult Bank Negara booth right the way to understand more on how to choose the right investment tools.
The Internet marketing or E-commerce services are gaining more market attention and there are plenty of companies that provide solutions for improving E-business success rates. The most innovative solution is the one that do consider all key factors of success in E-business. The company do provide not only the facilities to bring a business online, it also covers the aspect of driving the traffic, promoting the products in order to increase the closing ratio, up to managing the payment and logistics. It is so far the most comprehensive E-commerce solution for SMI/SME that I have come across so far.

Hazy Sky, Cloudy Malaysia
Come to the end of 17 July 2009. This morning wasn’t a good start. A bit of headache, kind of left over from the last evening. Even though after a long night sleep it still not fully recovered.
It is therefore I decided to work from home, so that can avoid excessive traveling and also, by staying at home, I can have a short break or nap if really feel tired and uncomfortable; indeed I really done that for the morning.
So what I have done for the day? Of course working from means I still have to work. Therefore I checked emails, review calls, sending some important messages to fellow counterparts. Then.. what else? I start browsing my own website, going through Google Adsense and Google Customized Search, figuring out how to embed the code to the blog pages so that I can sit there and wait for Google to send me $$.. haha.. kind of joke but I will work the way out. The most important thing in blogging is how to create interesting articles, then market it to the Internet public. Traffic is the key success factor of web publishing, similar to the circulation copies of traditional physical copy of publications.
For the lunch, it was simple enough. Fried burger and egg. A long the way trying to figure out what to be published. I have been a few days don’t have any updates on the website other than customizing the look and feel, adding more advertisements. Anyway, without good contents, it bring no meaning with good layout and tons of advertisements.
I decided to start writing some book reviews, for books that I had ever read. Starting with this one – The Science of Getting Rich. Since a lot of people, including me myself always think about getting rich. We work hard, but are we doing things the right way – the way which leads us towards richness? Well, what else for today? I guess the breaking news is the follow-ups on the sudden death of Teoh Beng Hock the political secretary to Selangor executive councilor Ean Yong Hian Wah, at the office of MACC. It is too much to suspect. I couldn’t be a suicidal case anyway. But who will come out and tell us the truth? Not only the family of Teoh, it is the concern for the whole 1BlackMalaysia people. This is nothing to do with politics, even though politicians do make use of the case as weapon the attack the opponents. As people, we just want to know it in and out, to correct what is not right there and ensure we remains staying in a peaceful and fair land, a land rule by the spirit of justice.
It is time to sleep and preparing for the challenging tomorrow. Wish to have some case close tomorrow. It is really dry now and it is still very far from achieving my year-30 goals.
