1 Million Laptops for ‘POOR’ Student?? Sure or Not??

Are they so sure that they want to spend the $$ to distribute the laptop to students? Well, I am not against the idea of helping student to own computer, and ultimately expose them to the skills of IT. But is there better way? For example, give a interest free loan instead of giving free?

After giving the computer, are they going to subsidize the Internet access as well? Basically without Internet nowadays, a computer is near to ‘useless’.

So who is going to be the supplier of the laptops? A branded company or local made ‘Cap Ayam’? Pricing wise is it reasonable? Nowadays we can get a netbook with price around RM 1,500. But remember, with a netbook, we need to acknowledge that we can’t do much more than browsing internet, doing word processing and social networking. Is that considered practical for students? For them, they might be keen to expose to more advance technology for example playing 3D games, do some graphic design, play with programming etc. We can’t really use a netbook to achieve that.

The most to worry is, it’s said to have 1 million student gonna benefit. However, who is to ensure that it’s correctly justified? What if they report as 1 million but the underlying fact is only 100k people get the laptops?

Too many question to be asked. Please don’t simply spend our $$. By the way aren’t we just been told that we need to tighten our budget deficit or else we might have to default our sovereign debts in few years time?

Some update on top of the original posting above. Still remember we had the project to provide projector, laptop to schools for teacher to use as part of high tech teaching? What I have known so far is, a lot of the projector are left unused, or at most used for watching videos during school time. Many teachers don’t know how to use computer aid teaching material to teach correctly. The laptops are out of date now and not suitable anymore. However, after spending all the money, what benefit have gain? I do not know. Maybe those in education field could share more.

Ok, Let’s Forget About the Engine, But…

We want to have the integrity and transparency back. We want to have somebody responsible.

It was a ‘good’ news (?) that the air force manage to locate the stolen 2 pieces of fighter jet engines.

Ok, now the discussion is whether and how to transfer the engines back?

Yet, that is not important at all because in accordance to our lovely PM Najib, the engines are too old and not at all worth to take back.

Fine. Then let’s don’t waste time on that.

So, considered case closed? And we have a happy ending now?

Not yet. So far no reasonable conclusion on how the hell the two pity jet engine been transferred out of the air force base. Who the hell have the contact and capability to sell them so far away out of the country.

Most importantly, it was indeed happening during the tenure of Najib as Minister of Defense. How come we don’t even have a clear explanation from him? Shouldn’t him be the one who have to at least take part of the responsibility?

Can we just leave it remains silence and soon forgotten? What else can be missing later?

50% of Broadband Penetration

Yes, that’s great to have the vision to increase broadband penetration as much as it can. However, penetration rate is one. But what is the quality of service?

Just right after the announcement by PM Najib, we are again, facing the slow connection to overseas due to damaged sub-marine cable. In the memory we are way too often to suffer from this type of problem – unless you don’t feel once a year is not bad enough. But it really affect a lot of my work and I believe, a lot more other person who rely a lot on Internet connection to perform their day to day work.

What a joke.

Report grabbed from TheStar:

KUALA LUMPUR: Telekom Malaysia Bhd’s (TM) Internet service was disrupted by a damaged underwater cable circuit at the Asian American Gateway (AAG) in Lantau, China.

In a statement issued yesterday, TM said due to the damage at AAG, which links Malaysia to the United States, customers surfing websites hosted in Hong Kong and the US would be experiencing slow connection.

Those using Internet protocol (IP)-like virtual private network (VPN) and critical business applications linked to Hong Kong and the US might encounter service disruption.

The statement said to overcome the problem, several Internet lines were directed to alternative connections to reduce traffic congestion.

With repairs under way, traffic to North America and Hong Kong would experience disruption while traffic to other countries would remain the same.

Logically Speaking…

I have to admit that this is kinda biased opinion. But you think about it logically.

According to a report in SinChew (http://bit.ly/6ocJIk), Pemuda UMNO urging the government to channel the money saved from reduction of sugar subsidy, which theoretically amounting to 260 Mil,  to help low income group.

1. Logically speaking, if the government were to have the money, why at the first place we reduce allocation for school admin cost? Why we canceled/reduced allocation for student meals? (Refer to my post at: Example of Tougher Life.. Version 2010)

2. Logically speaking, this kind of voice just show that what quality our political party is. They shout for the sake of shouting. Sometimes opinion can came from no where but from the buttock. We don’t need a brain to think nowadays.
