Social Networking for Business?

Social networking is currently the hot topic as a tool in marketing. Many business owners are looking at how to make use of social networks to benefit their businesses.

Before talking about doing marketing in social networks, please read my 2 cents reminders.

1. The first cent is, majority of the community members are joining to look for fun, not to be sold. If you are trying to do hard selling here, you won’t be much successful. The key of success is still, sincerity of adding value to people.

2. The second cent is, always remember the first one.

Well, I have found some groups focus in discussing about doing marketing the Internet way. I am joining them because I want to know more about this topic. As well, in order to make the group successful, everyone of the member should be contributing knowledge that could benefit others.

One of the group in facebook is “Web 2.0 Power Success Marketing | Social Media Wealth Club”, yet another one, still in facebook, is “Malaysian Business Network”.

The groups are growing rapidly with the effort from the founders and people that supports the group. It is perfectly alright that you come in as to use what ever resources that it could provide. However, in order for everybody, including you yourself to get more out of it, it needs your contribution also. What is lack here still is, sharing. Sharing of information, opinion, experience and wisdom is much required here.

It is for example, a typical discussion in the group, “How to use social networking sites for business and personal gain?”… If you are interested in the topic, or you feel that you want to have a few words to the discussion and try benefit the members, why not voice it out? Malaysian has been too silent… come on.

Ethics in Social Networking or Blogging

It is HOT.. that many people have an account or two on social networks, and also 1 or 2 blog sites on the Internet. We enjoy sharing information, and get to know things about others. I have strong believe that this world consist of more good guys than bad guys. It should complies to 20/80 rules. Therefore it is ok to have yourself (I mean your personal updates) on the line visible to people, just with some caution.

Why I say so? When we talk about social networking or blogging, we tend to expose our information and thought. Without knowing, you might be in risk of disastrous consequences for writing some recent updates on your social network pages or blog posts. Just as this one:

What the poor lady did is just classic. You might not have the thought to offence anyone when you post your opinion but SHIT do happen.

In short, be positive and share positive information with your friends; not bull shitting about negative stuffs.
